1.Scope
This Policy applies to information we collect through:
- The Check on Me mobile app (iOS and Android)
- Our backend APIs and account systems
- Our websites and support channels
- Communications we send you (email, SMS, voice, push)
It does not apply to third-party websites or services linked from the Services (for example, map providers).
2.Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account information: email address, password (stored in hashed form), and optional profile details (such as name)
- Preferences: check-in schedules, monitoring settings, notification preferences, and setup completion status
- Emergency contacts: names, phone numbers, email addresses, relationship labels, carrier information (for SMS delivery fallback), and primary/family contact flags
- Check-in records: timestamps, status (safe, missed, emergency), optional notes, and optional location data you choose to attach
- Support communications: messages you send to our support team
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device and app data: device type, operating system, app version, and diagnostic logs
- Usage data: feature interactions, API requests, and error reports
- Verification metadata: results of voice verification events (such as pass/fail, scores, timestamps, and verification type). Raw voice audio used for on-device verification is processed locally on your device and is not routinely uploaded to our servers for identity matching.
- Location data: when you grant permission and use location-enabled features, we may collect coordinates associated with check-ins or alerts
2.3 Payment Information
If you purchase a subscription, payment card details are processed by Stripe. We receive limited billing metadata (such as subscription status, plan type, and Stripe customer identifiers), not your full card number.
2.4 Information from Third Parties
We may receive delivery status from SMS/voice providers (such as Twilio) and authentication signals from app stores or sign-in providers if enabled.
3.How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Provide check-in, voice verification, and continuous monitoring features
- Send alerts to your designated emergency contacts when triggers you configure occur
- Send account emails (verification, sign-in PINs, security notices)
- Process subscriptions and prevent fraud
- Improve, secure, and troubleshoot the Services
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms
We do not use your information to sell unrelated products, and we do not sell personal information as defined by applicable U.S. state privacy laws.
4.SMS, Voice, and Emergency Contact Communications
4.1 Account Holder Messages
We may send you email and push notifications related to your account, check-in reminders, and safety events.
4.2 Messages to Emergency Contacts
When you add emergency contacts, you are responsible for obtaining their consent to receive safety and emergency messages on your behalf. We send SMS, voice calls, and/or emails to those contacts only when triggered by your account (for example, missed check-ins, failed voice verification, manual emergency alerts, or check-on prompts you initiate).
4.3 Mobile Number Non-Sharing
We do not sell, rent, lease, or share mobile telephone numbers collected for SMS alert purposes with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
Mobile numbers and emergency contact information are used solely to deliver Check on Me safety and emergency communications you authorize, to operate and secure the Services, and as described in Section 5 below.
4.4 Message Frequency
Message frequency varies. Emergency contacts typically receive very few messages unless a safety or emergency condition occurs on your account. During active monitoring, verification-related events may occur on a schedule you configure (for example, periodic checks while continuous monitoring is enabled). The number of messages depends on your settings, account activity, and whether alert conditions are triggered.
4.5 Rates and Opt-Out
Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Emergency contacts may opt out of SMS at any time by replying STOP to any Check on Me message. Reply HELP for help. Opting out of SMS may limit our ability to notify that contact via text message during an emergency event.
5.How We Share Information
We share information only as follows:
| Recipient | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Emergency contacts you designate | Delivering safety and emergency alerts you trigger |
| Twilio (or similar providers) | Sending SMS and voice calls |
| Email / SMTP providers | Sending account and alert emails |
| Stripe | Processing subscriptions |
| Cloud hosting providers | Storing account and application data |
| Legal and safety | When required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights, safety, and security |
We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably identify you.
We do not share mobile numbers with third parties for their independent marketing purposes.
6.On-Device Voice Processing
Check on Me performs voice feature extraction and comparison on your device using voice samples you record during setup. Voice profile data may be stored locally on your device (for example, in secure local storage). We store verification results (metadata) on our servers to power history, monitoring logic, and alert decisions — not raw audio recordings for routine verification.
If we introduce optional cloud-based voice features in the future, we will update this Policy and request any additional consent required by law.
7.Location Data
Location is collected only when you enable location permissions and use location-enabled features. We use location to attach context to check-ins or alerts (including map links sent to emergency contacts). You may disable location in device settings; some features may not work without it.
We do not continuously track your location in the background unless a feature you enable requires it and you grant the necessary OS permissions.
8.Data Retention
We retain information while your account is active and as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (for example, billing records).
Verification logs and alert logs may be retained for a limited period for safety auditing and service improvement.
9.Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords, and access controls.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. You use the Services at your own risk and are responsible for safeguarding your device and credentials.
10.Your Choices and Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
- Access, correct, or delete personal information
- Opt out of certain processing or marketing communications
- Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
To exercise rights, email privacy@checkonme.app. We may verify your identity before responding.
You can update emergency contacts, preferences, and notification settings in the app. You can delete your account through in-app settings or by contacting support.
11.Children's Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate parental consent. Contact privacy@checkonme.app if you believe we have collected information from a child.
12.International Users
BVigilante LLC is based in the United States. If you use the Services from outside the U.S., your information may be processed in the U.S. or other countries where our providers operate. By using the Services, you consent to this transfer subject to applicable law.
13.California Privacy Notice
California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of “sale” or “sharing” (as defined by California law). We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To submit a request, email privacy@checkonme.app.
14.Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised Policy with an updated “Last updated” date and, where required, provide additional notice for material changes.
Your continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
